How to Prepare for a Phone Interview

There are a lot of recruiters who would choose to interview applicants over the phone first before the actual face to face interview. This would save them time because they would be able to eliminate the undeserving ones over the phone pretty quickly. Most of the times, the interviewer would tell you when she would call so you would have ample time to prepare for it. Yes, there are many things you must do in order to prepare for the job interview.

Research the Company

It is important to know what the company does. Hence, better go to the official website of the company so you would know a little more about what they do. It is no secret they would be a bit impressed if you let them know right away the awards they won and the employees that worked for them in the past. They want someone who is trying to blend in the company's culture immediately. There is a chance they will ask you why you would want to work for their company and you can answer by telling them that you are impressed by what they have done in the past. Also, you can tell them you would want to be such a huge part of it in the future. Better memorize what you are going to say so that you are prepared for it.

Research the Position

There is no doubt the interviewer is going to ask you about the position you are applying for. Hence, better let that person know why you are the most qualified person to take the job. When they ask about the position, its better you know the duties and responsibilities of it and tell them you are pretty confident of handling all those things because of what you have accomplished in the past. There is nothing wrong with being confident as long as you have the credentials to back it up. Also, better look up the usual questions that an interviewer would ask then prepare your answers. Besides, it is important to be prepared for the phone interview. They would surely ask the "Why should we hire you?" and "Tell me about yourself" questions.

Go to a Quiet Place

A few minutes before the interview starts, make sure everything is quiet. Yes, that would mean to go to a place where you will hear the drop of a pin. If that is the case, you will surely hear what the interviewer is asking you. You are going to feel great about your answers to the interviewer's questions when the entire conversation is going along smoothly. Besides, you would also not want to disturb the other people in the place while the interview is ongoing. They would not want to listen to your answers to the interview questions as they would rather concentrate on what they are currently doing.

Avoid Distractions

It is important to stop everything you are doing so that you won't get distracted by anything. In fact, if you have friends who would usually call or text you, better tell them to avoid doing that during the interview. If they are true friends, then they would completely understand why you would want that to happen. If there are a few things on your mobile phone that could possibly distract you while the interview is ongoing, then it would be better to turn off those applications. For example, if you are currently playing a mobile game, then you must switch that off so that you can concentrate on the task at hand as that would certainly dictate your future.

If you follow all the points above, you will be able to avoid getting nervous for the phone interview. Remember, the interviewer will know right away if you are nervous. It would be better to just treat it like any other interview you have done in the past. There is no doubt this is not the first job interview you are going to encounter so better be prepared to do a lot more in the future. Also, it would be best to practice it with a friend who can pose as the interviewer. This person can ask you all the questions that an interviewer would usually ask.
